State of Affairs
In the spring of 2018, I spent days photographically documenting discarded groceries in one of the largest market halls in Rome. Stallholders there throw imperfect fruits and vegetables, along with foreign materials, into large black plastic garbage cans. Through mirror duplication of the actual motif, these arbitrary accumulations transform into multi-layered "fantasy" structures—visual metaphors of the global problem of foodstuff waste.
